City of Providence at night

Message from RI Secretary of Commerce Elizabeth M. Tanner, Esq.

Rhode Island’s economy runs on small businesses and our capital city, Providence, is a hub of creativity and ingenuity. Through our many programs and initiatives, we are funding Rhode Island businesses, empowering them to innovate, expand, and succeed.

Businesses large and small and in every sector face many challenges today; taxation, the regulatory environment, access to capital, ease of interacting with state and local government, availability of a skilled workforce and many other factors. At the Executive Office of Commerce, we leverage our resources and work collaboratively with other state and municipal leaders to cut red tape and make things easier for businesses to establish, grow and flourish in Rhode Island.

As the Secretary of Commerce and with the assistance of colleagues across all state agencies as well as the Governor’s Office and the General Assembly, we’ve collectively done a lot to make the state a better place to do business and continue to do so!
