PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Today, Governor Dan McKee and Rhode Island Commerce hosted an online resource fair for Rhode Island food manufacturers. Rhode Island boasts a $12 billion food economy centered around food manufacturers, dining establishments, commercial fishing and aquaculture, and research and development.
"Rhode Islanders know great food, and that’s thanks in large part to the thousands of local food producers and manufacturers who make it possible," said Governor Dan McKee. "With our RI 2030 plan, we’re making sure these businesses have the resources they need to grow, thrive, and keep shelves stocked with Rhode Island-made products."
"Food manufacturers are an essential part of Rhode Island’s economy – responsible for thousands of jobs and sparking innovation in one of our state’s most recognizable industries," said Secretary of Commerce Liz Tanner. "At Commerce, we’re committed to helping these new and existing businesses navigate available programs, access capital, and connect with the networks of support they need to succeed."
Today’s event highlighted new and existing programs and support services at Rhode Island Commerce, the RI Department of State Business Services Division, RI Department of Health, RI Small Business Development Center, and Polaris MEP. This includes the new Manufacturing Equipment Grant Program at Rhode Island Commerce, which offers grants to help manufacturers defray the cost of purchasing equipment or machinery, reimbursing up to 50% of a cash purchase or 50% of a downpayment for a financed purchase, with a cap of $25,000. Applications are being accepted through March 24.
