PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Governor McKee and Rhode Island Commerce announced the launch of a new application period for the Main Street RI Streetscape Improvement Fund and Site Readiness programs. Together, these programs aim to strengthen Rhode Island’s economy by targeting local main street business districts and preparing key sites for development across the state.
“Improvements to local infrastructure open up countless economic opportunities for our state and municipalities,” said Governor Dan McKee. “I encourage all cities, towns, agencies, and stakeholders to take advantage of these programs. The investments we make today better the lives of Rhode Islanders, our businesses, and our tourism industry tomorrow.”
“Strong and vibrant commercial districts are an essential part of our state’s economic success,” Secretary of Commerce Liz Tanner. “These programs will help lay the foundation for enhanced infrastructure that will lead to stronger communities and sustainable growth for our businesses.”
The Main Street RI Streetscape Improvement Fund aims to enhance the vitality and economic potential of Rhode Island’s commercial districts. The fund provides grants for projects that improve the appearance, accessibility, and overall appeal of “Main Street” areas. These projects can include upgrades like new sidewalks, improved lighting, street furniture, landscaping, signage, and accessibility improvements. To date, the state has awarded more than $7 million through the Main Street RI Streetscape Improvement Fund.

The Site Readiness Program provides funding and technical assistance to municipalities, public agencies, and other stakeholders to help make underutilized or vacant sites ready for development. Program goals include improving infrastructure, conducting feasibility studies, accelerating development and attracting investment. This program aligns with efforts to enhance the state’s competitiveness and provide businesses with “shovel-ready” sites to encourage faster and more efficient project execution.
